£99,200,396m intentional fine on Marriott hotels- ICO’s new strike on giants for bad management of data breaches under GDPR rules

After the £183.39m -worthy BA episode, the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) disclosed its intention to fine Marriott International, Inc. £99,200,396 for breaches under GDPR and linked to a lacking due diligence during the acquisition of Starwood hotels group.

DENMARK

Deleting data has never been more important

Two Danish companies have been reported to the police by the Danish Data Protection Authority for not complying with the GDPR. The Danish Data Protection Authority has suggested fines of up to DKK 1,5 million for failing to delete personal data pursuant to paragraph 1 (e) of article 5 of the GDPR.

ICO Issues Monetary Penalty on ‘Bounty’ for Sharing Personal Data without Informing Users  
Bounty is a pregnancy and parenting support club, providing information and marketing offers and services to parents at different stages of a child’s life from pre-conception to pre-school. Bounty informed the ICO that during the period 1 June 2017 to 30 April 2018, it shared a total of 35,027,373 personal data records with Acxiom.

ICO continues heavy GDPR penalty trend with fines amounting to £282 million in July 2019
In September 2018, a British Airways notified the ICO of a “cyber-incident.”  Users of the BA website were being diverted to a fraudulent website through which attackers harvested customer details—these included names, email addresses, payment information and login credentials of the customers.
