The second draft of the Chinese’s new data protection framework

In continuity with the publication of the first draft and with the aim of enacting an organic privacy law, China released for public consultation a second draft of the Personal Information Protection Law (PIPL). In line with the first version of December 2020, China's National People's Congress Standing Committee (NPC) has confirmed its determination to deeply reform the privacy framework.

THAILAND

Thailand’s law on personal data protection postponed for another year 

The Thai cabinet has approved the deferral of the full enforcement of the Personal Data Protection Act B.E. 2562 (PDPA). The PDPA, which has seven chapters and 96 sections,  is technically effective since 28 May 2019 with most provisions scheduled to take full effect on 27 May 2020 as a one-year grace period to allow adjustment by affected entities.

LATVIA

The right of employers to receive information on the results of collective employee Covid-19 testing in context of personal data processing

In May the Data State Inspectorate published its opinion on the issue of employers receiving information on the Covid-19 test results of their employees. This topic has been widely discussed over the course of the last year as many employers offer collective Covid-19 testing in order to enable employees return to workplace and to avoid a breakout of the virus that would not only endanger its employees but also potentially halt the provision of services.
